US 29 Pedestrian Bridge Project Delayed

COLUMBIA, MD – The US 29 pedestrian bridge will reopen on Wednesday morning due to a logistical issue. It had previously been closed for construction.

The geometric cage that was to spiral around the bridge caused the project to hit a snag.

According to the Howard County Department of Public Works, the contractor encountered difficulty getting the materials to make the cage.

Because the supply issue is putting construction on hiatus, the bridge will reopen from dawn until dusk starting Wednesday, Sept. 27, until the work resumes in early November.

During the opening of the bridge, Howard County officials say that the local government will continue to provide bus passes between the Oakland Mills Village Center and The Mall in Columbia.

The completion date for the bridge is anticipated to be in early January, county officials say.
