Current two-year terms of office for five Harper’s Choice Village Board seats expire on April 30, 2015. Three nomination petitions were received from Stephen Cook, Robert Fontaine, and Benjamin Rubin. Per the Harper’s Choice Community Association bylaws, if the number of nominations is less than or equal to the number of vacant director positions, the qualified nominees shall be deemed to be elected by the members and the Board of Directors will appoint the nominees to the director positions. The terms of office for the three nominees will be May 1, 2015 through April 30, 2017.
Here are the candidate statements of the new members of our Village Board.
Stephen Cook
I have lived in Columbia Since 1968, in Longfellow since 1996 and have served on the Harpers Choice Village Board for the past four years; I believe that Harper’s Choice is an ideal community and I am committed to maintaining a high-level of cleanliness and safety in our village and in our neighborhoods. I encourage residents to enjoy the many attributes of Harper’s Choice.
I also encourage residents to speak out! to Your Board members about your concerns related to what’s good, or not so good in Harper’s Choice. There is a segment at every Board meeting for that purpose. Your Village Board meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM.

Robert Fontaine
I would like to continue on the Harper’s Choice Village Board and have submitted my candidate petition for this coming year’s election. I was elected to serve as chair of the Board during this past year.
I have lived in Harper’s Choice since 1988, and I’ve lived in all of its neighborhoods. My kids went to local schools. Working on the Village Board gives me an opportunity to be involved with my neighbors in a positive way.
Benjamin Rubin
I was born in Harper’s Choice and grew up within five miles of my childhood home. I spent summers at CA camps, played baseball with CYBA in the spring, went to the ice rink and Splash Down in the winter, and looked forward to the start of Cub Scout activities at Running Brook Elementary School in the fall. Although I attended college and graduate school out of state — and even lived in Brazil for a year — when the time came to settle down my wife and I bought a home less than a mile from where I was born. We want our children to be able to grow up in this vibrant, diverse, and supportive community. I therefore see it as my civic responsibility to contribute to the community in which I was raised and to perpetuate the values that have made Columbia great for the next generation.
