Mosquito Problem? How is Water Draining Away From Your Home?

drainageFlexible downspout extensions are often used to direct water away from the foundation of a house. Inexpensive and easy to install, these seem like the perfect way to redirect water. What you may not know is that they are also a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Some water naturally gets trapped in the grooves when it flows out of the extension tubing. Since mosquitoes only need a small amount of water to breed hundreds of larvae, the water left in the grooves becomes the perfect habitat for growth.

Did you know that using above ground drains is also prohibited as per the covenants? All drainage hoses, tubes or pipes must be buried below ground or in a landscape bed to be compliant. Using splash blocks and other solutions to solve your drainage problems is highly recommended. Please contact John McCoy, CA Watershed Manager, at 410-312-6336 for information and additional resources.
