Harper’s Choice Community Association

The Harper’s Choice Community Association (HCCA) is a non-profit civic organization whose Mission is to create and nurture community and to work to maintain the Village as an exceptional place for residents, businesses, property owners, and other stakeholders.

There are three neighborhoods in the Village of Harper’s Choice.

Longfellow, the first neighborhood in the village, was named for the American poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and all the street names are taken from his poems.
Hobbit’s Glen was inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. All of the street names in this neighborhood come from Tolkien’s works, including the The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Swansfield’s name was inspired by an etching titled The Swan by James Abbott Whistler. Street names here were inspired by the titles of Whistler’s and Winslow Homer’s works of art.

The entire village was part of Jericho, a farm once owned by the late Robert Harper Goodloe Carroll. The name was chosen because of his fondness for this particular site. Kahler Hall, the community center, was named for the Kahler family whose farm was located here.

Kahler Hall is the Community Center building for Harper’s Choice and is located at 5440 Old Tucker Row. Many community activities take place at Kahler Hall. The building is the meeting house for both the Village Board of Directors and the Architectural Committee. It also serves as a reception hall, providing party and meeting space for groups as large as 195.
